I have been into physical fitness all my life. One of the many people I have always admired is the late Jack LaLanne. He was considered “the Godfather of fitness” and passed away on January 23, 2011. He was 96 years old.This 288 page soft cover book (Live Young Forever: 12 steps to optimum health, fitness and longevity by Jack LaLanne) was the last one he wrote before he died. I purchased this book for a bargain price on Amazon and found this text to be fantastic. It covers the personal total fitness program he has followed all his life. It is also filled with great photographs of Jack LaLanne and I love the clear drawings of the numerous exercises shown in this book. This text is organized into sixteen chapters. There is a foreword by Robert Kennedy and a brief introduction.The sixteen chapters cover the following areas: (1) “Early craziness” details his life and how he changed his life style and became a fitness expert. (2) “His plan for you” is explained in this section. (3) He tells how we all are “far from perfect” in this chapter. The remaining chapters cover: Motivation, step away from killer habits, personal care, eating clean, maintain perfect posture, stay well-hydrated, stretching, find some energy, be in a solid relationship, work out, never retire, consume plenty of fruits and vegetables and my wish for you.The information in this text is timeless. The program is simple and easy to follow if you are into physical fitness and healthy eating. If you are seeking a practical and effective approach to total health and fitness you should check out this book.Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Personally at nearly 70 I hoped for the experience I got: a good take on taking care to maintain and also to improve at this age, and at any age. Well written book. I thought Jack LaLanne was a dated person but his take of fitness and mental acuity and diet practices, plus broad range of success components in life was RIGHT ON! Jack had an almost hypnotically compelling ability to communicate and inspire and he does that as well in the written word. Worth the money and more.

I know. Living legend IS one of the most stale and overused phrases of our generation. But it definitely applies to Jack LaLanne.It's all here, the wisdom of 95 years from a fitness enthusiast who is as enthusiastic as ever. Why don't people listen? Actually, they do. LaLanne's influence reaches back for six, seven, maybe even eight decades. As Robert Kennedy says in the foreword, the term "jacked-up" for someone who is super-fit, and the common use of "jumping jack" (which goes by various names across the world) both are attributable to LaLanne. He invented many weight devices, including the popular Smith machine, long before resistance weight training was universally recommended for people of all ages.You will not find anything in this book strange or mysterious; no talk of muscle-confusion or how to shed 20 pounds in a few short weeks. LaLanne tells you how to change YOUR life for YOUR benefit. And he keeps on and on, writing about YOU over and over until, he hopes, YOU realize that these truths also apply to YOU. Clearly this person sincerely cares about his fellow human beings.The man is a national treasure, and this book is filled with his characteristic humor and honesty. One gets the impression the writer is not only obsessed with his own physical conditioning (yes, even at 95), he REALLY wants YOU to get on the bandwagon as well.

The book is excellent! It's an easy-to-read life guide/semi autobiography by the father of modern fitness. Some of the things he points out (for instance, showering and brushing your teeth every day) are a little obvious, but his diet tips and the experiences he shares are priceless. Well worth the money and the time spent reading it. RIP Jack Lalanne. 🤘

I really like this book. Jack lalanne was the real deal. Here he shows you why you should avoid junk food, fast food and "dead food" that may give your body some energy temporarily but will not give your body any nutrition or life. Why "living foods" give your body life,strength and energy which is alot better and longer lasting than the energy you get from junk food. He also gives you advice on being fit and exercising and demonstrates how to do the exercises to build up your body, develop great strength and lose weight so that you will be happy, healthy and full of energy and feel great all the time. At age 95 when he wrote this book he said that he felt as good as he did when he was 25. Wow. Jack was an amazing man to say the least and following his example certainly would be a good idea for anyone. If you read about his life, he was probably the closest thing we had to "super man" The man did some amazing physical feats to prove what a healthy and fit lifestyle can do for someone.

Lots of great ideas for getting/keeping fit. Also very motivating. My favorite take away from the book is Lalanne's comment: "Never skip a workout". I could have done without the juicing section at the end (probably was a plug for his juicer business), but overall I like the book so much - rather than lend it out - I've given several copies as gifts.
