The guide is slightly wider than the usual pocket guide format, which made for easier to read text and bigger photos but that will make it harder to fit in a pocket! Guide does a fair job of giving enough detail to plan where to go and what to do. Lots of big photos showing whats on offer and the supporting maps are provided along side the text as the book works it way geographically around the islands. It sensibly doesnt waste much space on 'where to stay' or 'where to eat' because those logistics now well served by user review websites. There is also a decent historical and cultural section to give the background context for your holiday. I reckon it could be a bit improved by having more detail (and less photos) in the suggested 'best of lists' for historical buildings, arts, outdoors activities etc in that upfront section to help guide what you might like to be doing. I was thinking of visiting as part of a larger winter holiday but the guide made malta look like its prime tourism is for european summer sea-side vacations, so i ended up deciding not to visit so I guess the guide did its job of providing me enough information to allow a decision on what to (not) do/see.safe travelsdavid in melbourne australia

I really think this author can write and I would have been an avid reader of her work but I will not support cliffhangers. I want to pay for a good book not one that takes you to the heat of the story and leaves you hanging. I'm not falling for that gimmick for more money. Was very disappointed when the first book started with two star crossed characters and they abruptly ended and started over with siblings whose journey also abruptly ended in the book. After that, I was not interested in more short lived tales. However, the book did refer you to your local book store to get more information on the characters started in this book. Do not recommend at all.

While each of these stories are definitely good beginnings, it was extremely disappointing to find out that they are not stand alone stories. The reader is left hanging unless he/she buys the next book and then the next.......... So, while Ms Woodbury is a compelling storyteller, I will try a different author and get the whole story.

I had read daughter of time before. It is an excellent book. Actually it is an excellent series. The other 3 stories are good but I dislike 4 cliffhangers.

History fascinates me, and when you add personal journeys I'm hooked. Even if you don't know anything about Wales, you will still be drawn into the its ancient history. You'll fall in love with the characters, and hate to leave them behind in the pages of the book.

incomplete. Stories untold. Scattered. Story lines that are inconsistent, non conforming to the plotline. I want to know where the help the vehicles disappeared to in both time travel plots that never were explained, nor the story line expressed or expounded upon. Time I will Never Get Back. Thought of looking at more books, read reviews and realized, but my losses now! There's only so much readers pissed off I can get before it becomes self abuse.✌💋

I am not a history person, but I do love the way it is presented in these books. I thought that Sarah Woodbury did not have much passion or love in Daughter of Time, but I had to continue the series to see what happened. The other books, as this Prequel, did not have the display of passion between the couples, but there was enough passion for Wales that made up for this.As an alternate history, she wove quite a tale!

Overall I am very well pleased with this book and the excitement it has brought me. This book had me unwilling to put it down until I turned the last page as I was so enthralled with the plot.The author of this book knows how to deliver the good in this romance novel. One of my favorite books of all time. It really does read like a novel at different points. A wealth of interesting information about one of the most influential substances on modern human history. Lots of great perspectives and many varied stories about everything possibly relating to Uranium. I can't think of a nonfiction book that I liked reading as much as this one.

This is great stuff! I'm in the middle of it now and I think it's one of the best books I've bought on Amazon. Richard Rhodes' classic was just too ponderous for me to get through at the time, but 'Uranium' gives me just what I need to know about the nuclear world without knowing exactly what every well-known physicist of the era had for breakfast that morning. All of the disparate info you've ever known/not known about nuclear physics and its politics comes together here in a very coherent style that doubles as both travelogue and suspense novel. Plus, you have to get it now to figure out just what the heck the title of this review has to do with anything, right?

An excellent book, and a truly fascinating reading experience. If you have never been afraid of radioactivity, this book will do it for you! Deep background on what really is 'the rock that shaped the world.' My very highest recommendation!

A very good book with a view of Uranium in a different way. The effects of this mineral on the world, in ways other than the obvious bomb, are presented. A very entertaining and educational read.

Tom Zoellner creates a wonderful tome explaining how the discovery, scientific understanding, mining, and development of uranium influenced recent history. I can remember studying about this strange element in the periodic table, atomic number 92, and its radioactive peers, such as Radon (86), Radium (88) Plutonium (94), to name a few, and how the science made me a bit listless. Had Zoellner's "Uranium" been available at that time, there would have been no doubt in my mind of why the tedious study of nuclear chemistry and physics was so important. It literally dictated the course of history since the latter half of the 20th century.This is, as one would expect, more of a history book than a scientific text. The world is the stage for this fascinating story. From it's early discovery in Shinkolobwe, in the Belgian Congo, to the post war American uranium rush centered around Moab, Utah, uranium was more coveted than gold had been in the previous century. It has been found on virtually every continent (except Central and South America).The rush to develop the atomic bomb, won by the United States during World War II during the Manhattan Project, culminating in the devastating uranium bombing of Hiroshima and the plutonium bombing of Nagasaki in 1945, put a merciful premature end to the most destructive war in history. Of course, the history of element number 92 did not stop there. After providing a wonderfully detailed account of this period, including a vivid description of the various colorful personalities involved (Oppenheimer, Fermi, etc), Zoellner goes on to examine the desperate pursuit of uranium 235 by the Soviets, the resulting forced labor camps in St. Joachismal (Bohemia), the slump of the uranium market after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, and the recent renaissance of uranium as a result of its coveting by Iran and other Islamic powers for the purpose of military domination, and other third world countries for both peaceful and non-peaceful purposes.This is not a quick or easy read. But it is really not meant to be. Still, I recommend it highly for the serious student of science and history, and especially for the reader who is interested in how the former dictates, to a large extent, the latter.

This book is well worth the read! As other reviewers have noted, the book covers a good range of history, with amazing anecdotes in every chapter. The subject is very relevant now that industrial countries are revisiting nuclear power.Why not 5 stars? There was no single cohesive idea (other than the mineral itself) to tie everything together. The end of the book was an end of the anecdotes, not really the completion of a story or thesis.But I don't think that's a big shortcoming. This is an enjoyable read, well researched and evenly presented.

first let me say i am a science geek and a history buff. i started this book and couldn't put it down. this is a well researched well thought out book. i learned so much from this book. i would recommend this book to anyone who is a curious person or someone who likes to learn while being entertained. it is a good read
