I have been buying this book via local bookstores since 2007; I trust this book--and the authors--implicitly, since doctors really don't know the contraindications of the medicines they prescribe--and most pharmacists don't either.You have to be very proactive and take charge yourself whenever a doctor prescribes medication for you, because no one else is going to check to see if any of it IS contraindicated, and one easy way to do that is by a book such as this. It doesn't just list medicines--it also tells you symptoms, dangers, age groups (newborns to Seniors), dosages, and emergencies should anyone overdose, in addition to other information that really no one else is going to tell you. WELL WORTH THE COST. As drugs come on the market, they update this book every year or so.Personally I would not be without this book.

This is a great book ! If you have prescriptions to take it shows what the pill is supposed to look like and the proper dosage and also what the side affects are and what they are used for !

I'm not 100% sold on this book, as it is not as comprehensive as it could be. Upon closer examination, it seems that there are a few Rx titles missing from its pages. Also, there is only one section in the center of the book where pictorial representations of the drugs are provided (and these are only the most common types prescribed today). I purchased this for my medical coding classes to help me code prescriptions based on type. For any prescriptions not provided in this reference, the internet is a good source of information regarding drug type and dosage increments for coding assignments.Is it a good reference for medical coding students? Meh, I can't really say it would be my first choice now that I've looked at it firsthand.

It’s published in 2010 & I have Meds that are prescribed to me in 2015 that I cannot find because they are more current than this book — I am deeply disturbed that the published date is NOT included in the description— We should get current editors of prescription guides - I am really angry about this !!!

Bought this for my dad. He's 75 years old, refuses to use the internet and is obsessed with the medication he takes. He loves this. In fact, this is the second book because he wore out the first one.

With all the different drugs on the market today and taking into consideration the possibility of drug interactions and side effects, it is vital to stay informed. Recently my wife was prescribed two different medications by her doctor. Taking them together could have been a threat to her life, neither the druggist nor the prescribing doctor warned her about the side effects that would take place if she took both medications within 4 to 6 hours of each other. The Pill book did! GET THIS IN YOUR HOME! Think generics are exactly the same as brand name drugs? Think again!

I had an old version to this and it helped me a lot in the past so I had to get the updated version since there are lots of new medication on the market now. It give the names of the pills, the generic brand name and all the important information on them. For example, if you're on certain medication and you're not suppose to use something else while taking it, It gives you the reason. I was on a medication and It says I couldn't eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice, but the information that came with it didn't say why. Since I wanted to know the reason I consulted the pill book and it gave me the reason. this is a great book to have in your home so go ahead and buy it. You wont be sorry.

An experienced pilot and his wife crash their small plane into a mountainside, barely surviving, only to find themselves miles from nowhere.These are just some of the stories that the author brings to life, some old and some recent. The most striking aspect this collection is the emphasis on search and rescue (SAR) in conjunction with the survivors ordeals. To those of us who have come to appreciate the God-created majesty and beauty of the Adirondak Mountains, Peter Bronski's book reminds us that "the wildness" of weather and terrain can quickly become desperate enemies to the overly adventurous among us. Amazing stories that give us a deep appreciation for those mountain natives that are able to mount death defying rescues quickly.

What a wonderful read. I just recently discovered hiking/camping in the Adirondacks and its become my new love.... So during the week when I'm in the city working and there is no chance of being in the wilderness (And I'm itching for the weekends)... This book helps to quell that itch and gives me something to read so I feel like I'm there. This book brings it all to life, the perfect mix of storytelling, facts/information (perfect for understanding where everything is taking place) and suspense. It also makes one respect the power of nature and the Adirondacks, and if you're a hiker, definitely helps you get an understanding of what can do wrong. The stories are numerous and just the right length. Just when you have reached the end of one, the next is beginning. Lastly the author does an excellent job of combining quotes in the beginning of each chapter from sources that I'm sure to follow up on and will make my reading list in the future. Good job and thanks for the awesome read!!!

I just read the Preface and I am hooked. Peter Bronski's writing style is both passionate and eloquent. The pages come alive with his love and respect for the outdoors and especially the Adirondacks. I am very happy and jumping back in right now :)

Having lived near the Adirondacks and having ridden motorcycles all over them, I was familiar with many of the mountains and places. I lived through the micro burst and the ice storm of 98. All the stories were excellent and in some cases very intriguing. Highly recommend if you are interested in survival situations.

I cut my outdoor teeth in the high peaks region back in the late 70s & early 80s. The beauty and unpredictability of the weather in this region are unmatched. My spine tingled as I read the harrowing stories of people caught in the clutches of bad situations, and fighting to make the best of it. I've been a Search & Rescue team member in Kern County Ca and Monterey county Ca, and been in some truely frightening situations, but none as scary as a severe thunder & lightning storm on the top of Giant Mountain. This book brought back the rememberance of my primal fear...feeling my hair stand up from the static building before the lightning strikes, the screaming of both me and my trailmates, as the thunder boomed, reminding us of how frail life really is. What a great book!

This book is useful in case study about hiking / backpacking deaths and dangers. Recommended. These are REAL dangers... not the make-believe "paranormal" fantasies pushed by paranoid types.

Tragedies and near tragedies told in a very conversational style. You felt like you knew the people that work the rescue teams in the White Mountains after reading this book.

In response, Mahoney reportedly produced a revolver he had hidden in his inside coat pocket, and shoved it into the hurler's face—suggesting a bad ending would follow if Connelly proceeded. Connelly saw the wisdom of Mahoney's position and returned to the mound.

I bought this for our 9 year old nephew and decided not to give it to him. The book is not written in kid friendly language and some of the stories are not appropriate for a kid. And most of the stories are just boring. My husband who loves baseball didn’t enjoy the book either. Not impressed. I guess it is just a matter of personal taste.

It would be a quick read if you sat down and read it cover to cover, but a really interesting one. Perfect book for a bathroom. Appropriate for any age too: easy reading level, and the few times a PG-13 story does pop up, it's told in a wink-wink way without being explicit. This book does exactly what you expect it to do, and it does it well

Excellent source of humor and fun facts for anyone who likes baseball. I gave this as a birthday gift to a family member who closely follows our home team, and the recipient loved it!

This is a book worth looking act -- you really don't have to "read it" -- very light content, but entertaining. Some redundancy -- how many times do the curse of Goat and the Bambino be mentioned?Buy it used.

A real stretch to fill 123 small pages. Full of filler and grammatical gaffes, nothing memorable or noteworthy. Plodding, tedious style - and the subject could have been interesting.

My 9 year old grandson is a baseball fanatic! He knows all of the stats and loves even the "retired" players. I gave this to him for Christmas and he went nuts! He kept reading us some of the unusual stats and incidents! Thx... A great book for young and old who love baseball!

This book had some interesting facts and incidents, but it was often lacking. It frequently left out key bits of information (like dates) and was, overall, a bit "thin" on the number of incidents.

First off, the composite authors name is Lapin, not Laping.I used this book back around 1990 to develop a large software suite. The first 5 chapters are an excellent intro to portable C coding. We used the beginning chapters to design and develop our common platform headers, libraries and Make system. We did not take their examples unchanged, but used them as starting points for a our needs, which was a somewhat more comprehensive system. My team gives the book credit for helping us get us some of our 10x improvements. Still have not seen the likes of this book even today, in terms of the quality of data to use.The last half of the book is a summary of different API calls and /bin functions available on different Unixes of the day. Interesting now, from a historical perspective.

In addition to being everything the previous reviewer said it was, its true author is Eric S. Raymond, rather better known in the community now than he was then. ("Lapin" is French for "rabbit", as in Rabbit Software, the publishers.) So it should really be filed along with "The Cathedral and the Bazaar" and "The New Hacker's Dictionary".

Cowan's only half-right. The "E" in "J.E. Lapin" is for "Eric" (as in "Eric Raymond"). The "J" is for "Jon" (as in"Jon Tulk"). The book was actually a team effort undertaken by several software engineers working at Rabbit Software in the 80s.

This book by Pete Hollins is the real deal and teaches you how to really learn in an accelerated manner. It's how to process info, condense it, make it stick, and use it.The science of accelerated learning starts from the beginning and how we must shape our mindsets to be geared for learning, fertile as he puts it. Oh, I like that word too. Then he talks about the three types of factors that can make or break us: subconscious psychological, conscious psychological, and environmental. It was a great breakdown and the further breakdowns at the end of each chapter with the takeaways were priceless.This book is 2 legit to quit, I swear.

Teach to learn, deliberated practice, self explanation, describe in one sentence, get the basic facts right, use metaphors: these are my takeaways. Well written, good read with proper re-enforcement.

Whatever it was I had hoped for or expected, I didn't find it here.To begin with, the publisher's blurb says: MAKE LEARNING PAINLESS, EXCITING, HABITUAL, AND SELF-MOTIVATING. ABSORB INFO LIKE A HUMAN SPONGE. If you have never really been well trained on how to study, a diligent application of some of these insights have the potential to point to a success path, but that being said, the blurb is misleading. Even with good technique in tow, learning will never be effortless or "painless" (as even the author admits), and even after reading and applying some of this, you will not be "absorbing info like a human sponge." As for the excitement, motivation, and habit, getting better at learning will help, but these ultimately still need to come from somewhere inside yourself.This book is really just a collection of facts about the learning process that many will have already encountered elsewhere but perhaps in a more piecemeal fashion. What this book does NOT contain is any new power learning discoveries or new memory devices. What you will find here is a condensed version of most of the conventional wisdom on the subject.Even though it is condensed and to the point, it still felt padded somehow, like a term paper trying to be a book. About a third of the book is summary of stuff the author explained in (just slightly) more detail. There are chapter summaries at the end of each chapter, then another grand summary at the end of the book, so you will see all the high points at least three times.Toward the end, it started morphing into a leadership book, a format I recognize from repeated exposure. Trying really hard to stretch it into a book, I guess.I would only buy this if you believe you are really in the dark on the subject of studying and learning.

This book covers a wide range of current practical learning techniques and theories. Some of what’s covered I’ve run across from other resources. This is concise and to the point. The chapter summaries at the end of each chapter as well as the overall summary at the end of the book ensure you don’t miss any key points

Having just finished reading this book, my first by this author, I feel delighted at finding so many things that are important and new to me (such as shorter study sessions, more active learning, interleaving subjects). No way-out philosophy here ... but things that made sense and backed up with clear explanations and references. I became increasingly excited to put his suggestions into practice, and the further I read, the more motivated I felt to recommit to my own personal learning journey. I highly recommend this book to others. I am looking forward to reading other books (there are quite a few) by Peter Hollins on related subjects. Very impressive!

I like how the author explains what works and what doesn't, and things like the scientific method, which we may have heard the term before, but never totally understand all the details about it. Especially to learning. We could easily associate it with science. But the author takes the concept and applies it to a different realm. I dislike nothing about the book. Even in writing favorably about inquisivity and cynicism, while seen in some circles unadmirably, he shows how to use them in a way to foster learning. I'd recommend this book to students, teachers, parents, and any child being tutored.

I read this book in supplement with Accelerated Learning by Leonard Bell and found this book much more enjoyable in comparison. It goes over how not to learn, how to be better in acquisition of knowledge, obstacles, and ways to test how deep our knowledge really runs.Leonard Bell's book was more rigid and I am skeptical on if playing classical music really improves learning ability. Peter provides a better overview of the whole process with several leads on how to remove bad study habits and replace them with better ones.Anyone in college or requiring the passing of an exam or test to further their career should read this book; if you're going to bother to learn you may as well learn how to learn correctly.

This is a pleasant, quick little book that summarizes some recent discoveries and current theories about learning and teaching. I would recommend it to adults who are returning to school or to teachers who need to catch up on the new ideas.

Every time I got excited about a key component of their vision and purpose, I got buried with cyclical teaching. But that isn't my greatest fault with the book. In all their talk of getting out of the box, they insisted it had to be controlled within the box. Plus they at one point claimed this method is what will turn the church around. It is a tool, not the tool. A tool can help, direct, or hinder change. It is the Holy Spirit that will bring real change. I like the tools in the book so I recommend it for the value in them. I can't give it more than three stars because of writing style and over stating it's role.

The church needs to recover her most ancient, potent and beautiful form, that of the apostolic movement, according to Alan Hirsch and Dave Ferguson in this book. The book represents an attempt by the authors to articulate a dynamic learning journey called Future Travelers which is being undertaken by a group of large US churches that are reframing themselves as high-impact exponentially reproducing missional movements.Readers who are not familiar with Alan's previous books will quickly discover that there is a whole new vocabulary to learn. The new paradigm of apostolic movements arises from the convergence of church growth theory, exponential thinking, and incarnational missiology. The new paradigm, which is referred to as "Apostolic Genius", encompasses mDNA which has six elements:* Jesus is Lord* Disciple-making* Apostolic environment* Missional-incarnational impulse* Organic systems* CommunitasAlan's perspective as a missional strategist and apostolic theologian is communicated in chapters 2 to 6, with Dave providing a short response to each chapter, and then Dave's perspective as an apostolic practitioner is communicated in chapters 7 to 10, with Alan providing a short response to each chapter. The two authors have distinctly different writing styles, but it is helpful to get the interposed theoretical and practical perspectives.Most readers will find this a challenging book to read, partly because of the new vocabulary and partly because many of the ideas raised are likely to be unfamiliar to the typical church leader. However, in my view the book is well worth the struggle because of the importance of considering and thinking through the issues raised. Apostolic movements are a work in progress , so it is OK to disagree with the authors' ideas.I personally struggled with the idea that "all of God's people already have everything in them to be able to get the job done". My understanding is that God gives different people different spiritual gifts so that we need to work together with others who have complementary spiritual gifts to get the job done, and this is why a church can accomplish mission far more effectively than lone-ranger Christians, and small groups which do not have an adequate balance of spiritual gifts tend to be ineffective.I highly recommend the book to church leaders and gave it five stars, not because of its literary style or even the answers it gives but because of the critical importance to the church in Western countries of addressing the questions the book raises.

This book has some good insights into mission of the church, but I would caution about using everything in this book. If you are not a fan of social gospel, this book will rub you wrong. The main thrust of the book is to try new approaches to church that take the individual outside of the four walls to reach the 60% who our unchurched. The book also bounces back and forth between the two authors, with one writing a chapter and the other critiquing it.

On The Verge by Alan Hirsch and David Ferguson contains some great missional thoughts. The book is thoroughly thought out and well presented in format. However, the use of unfamiliar words, jargon, and words that seemed formed just for use in this book, made the reading of the book laborious at best. I would quickly tire of reading it so I would lay the book aside for a while. Then when I would return to the book, I found myself lost and had to re-educate myself on the terminology of the book.That having been said, I believe the concepts are sound. The institutional church must become far more missional and sending rather than institutional and gathering - On The Verge addresses this issue. The authors provide many examples of institutional churches working to become more missional and with some success. These churches and their success are used to validate the concepts the authors present in the book. I remain skeptical that the institutional church can make the wholesale changes Hirsch and Ferguson seem to think they need to make. In that sense, On The Verge did not convince me that the institution called church is anywhere near being on the verge of change.

If Joel Barker's famous axiom is indeed true - that, "you manage within a paradigm; you lead between paradigms", then On the Verge by Hirsch and Ferguson, is a most welcomed and greatly needed leadership resource for the North American church. It is solidly grounded in biblical theology and organizational theory, and geared towards catalyzing and facilitating ecclesiastical transformation of apostolic proportions. Through a four-fold process of: 1) Imagine, 2) Shift, 3) Innovate and 4) Move, Hirsch and Ferguson provide a detailed map for the journey away from a ministry governed by an institutional paradigm towards one governed by an apostolic paradigm. It addresses issues from the conceptual to the concrete, from the theoretical to the practical, and from the subconscious to the conscious. Matters of culture, ethos, values, practices, and ethics are tackled; and each chapter provides strategic discussion and exploration questions to help leadership teams and groups process the material. Additionally, On the Verge, is rooted in Hirsch's previous work on the structure of apostolic genius (i.e., Jesus is Lord, communitas, organic systems, etc.). I highly recommend this book!

I have several of Donna Hay's cookbooks in paperback. This and The New Classics are the first hardback books I have purchased. Donna Hay's books are some of the most beautifully photographed cookbooks I have ever seen. The recipes are not complicated and if you enjoy cooking, you will use this book. If you don't enjoy cooking, you will be inspired to try.

I have 3 Donna Hay cook books. All are beloved. This one is my favorite by far. Full disclosure, I have an addiction to cookbooks. I buy them to cook from them. But I don't like cookbooks with odd ingredients and the more pictures the better.All of Donna's cook books have pictures. This one is beautiful. The photos are slick, the ingredients not exotic, the food delish. I highly recommend this cookbook if you are a foodie that likes to cook and maybe impress your family while you're at it.

I loved the original format of Donna’s cookbooks and was not immediately in love with this one. But ... it grew on me to the point that I have already used it several times. The different applications from one basic recipe are a great way to show any cook how easy it is to be creative in the kitchen. A winner.

Beautiful format and illustrations, simple straightforward recipes. I'm a sucker for cookbooks and this is the best new one I've come across.

It's not basic, but it is brilliant! A true cook's encyclopedia.

This is a beautiful cookbook with lovely colorful pictures. Recipes are definitely doable with some with more of a challenge. I have a couple of her previous books. This is my favorite.

I love everything Donna Hay. Her recipes are simple yet delicious and healthy. Every recipe has a picture and it really teaches you how to cook.

Gorgeous book. Too bad it didn’t have plastic around it. Pages warped from rain :(
