When my husband was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease in 2010, we began looking for books/articles describing what his future might look like and we found very few books actually serving the purpose. Even through his Neurologist, we just could not locate books that answered most of his questions. This book does serve that purpose. Most articles/pamphlets cover only the obvious symptoms and do not explain the functions of the brain that are sorely affected. In speaking with his neurologist, it was explained that they do not recommend books because the research and documentation on this disease is changing so rapidly that a book quickly becomes obsolete and unreliable. But, my husband urgently wanted to understand what the disease is and how it affects the brain, and we feel like the book does address this reliably.

Up-to-date and sound medical information on PD. It may not be an easy read for everyone because it does use medical terminology and expects readers to have a basic understanding of the neurological system. I learned a lot from the book and even handed it off to my husband's physical therapist who said the book taught him a lot about PD. The information is organized into chapters on , for example, diet or medications, so one can read just the sections that are of current interest. It took courage for me to order and read the books because I was afraid of what I might learn about my husband's condition. The book is optimistic and helps on understand that the PD journey is one shared by many others. Authors provided solid coping strategies and pointed to the growing research on PD. Worth the read if one is not afraid of reading medical terms and concepts. It is written at a level beyond magazine or newspaper reading, so be prepared. The book also provided a more detailed and directed information source than the many websites on the topic, so the information is worth the price of the book.

Very informative book. I purchased this book when my father in law was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease and Dementia. They thought he possibly had Alzheimer's too. This really helped us get an idea of what we were facing, and what to expect. We lost him due to a combination of Parkinson's and Dementia. If you are looking for this book because you have a loved one with this disease, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I highly recommend this product. My husband and I own 8 or 9 books on PD. This text is my go-to choice. The chapters are detailed and easy to understand - not to say that it is extremely simple - but it is clearly spelled out. Parkinson's is explained in a logical sequence, starting with a definition, and proceeding through its stages. Symptoms, medications and their side effects, as well as recommendations on how to cope, are all addressed. Very helpful!

The book is organized in chapters which can be read in sequence or separately. The writing style is dry and somewhat repetitious, but the book is not meant to entertain. It can be used as a reference book, and individual chapters can be studied as they seem appropriate. The authors do not sugar coat the subject. The disease will gradually get worse. It can be managed but never cured. Still, there is some comfort in knowing what may be expected. The authors do not talk down to their readers, but the technical terminology is kept to a manageable level.For anyone dealing with Parkinson's, as patient or loved one, this is a useful and down-to-earth introduction. I recently passed the PMP exam on the first try. My almost exclusive study aid was Andy's book 'The PMP Exam; How to pass on your first try'.Andy does an absolutely outstanding job of presenting the material in a very concise and well formatted fashion. He presents the concepts as you would see them in the PMBOK guide and takes the reader through the various processes and knowledge areas that one is required to grasp in order to make it through the exam.I originally purchased this book based on the outstanding reviews and I have to say it was money well spent. Upon reading some additional reviews, I also elected to purchase Rita's book on the PMP. However, I found her book to be far less effective at conveying information. After spending a few chapters using it, I set it aside and focused back on Andy's book.I know several users have commented that one needs to purchase and read the PMBOK guide in order to supplement the material in Andy's book. This statement is 100% FALSE. Andy goes into much deeper depth with his prep guide than what was covered in the PMBOK. As someone who spent the time reading the PMBOK, I can easily say that it did not provide any additional insight that was not already covered in excellent detail in Andy's book.Just as an aside recommendation, I used the following strategy when studying for the exam and it served me well. I will share it with those who might read this review as I think adhering to this study flow will get the information absorbed well:1) Read Andy's book cover to cover; use a highlighter to mark key points. Do not do the sample questions in your first pass.2) Go through Andy's book again focusing on the highlights in each chapter. This time, do the sample questions at the end of each chapter.3) Access the Velociteach website and go through the training. (You get one week of free access with purchase of the book) Go through all the training material and do the sample quizes that come with each section.4) Do the final exam in Andy's book.Spend your remaining time reviewing the material and find additional practice questions from external sources if you wish.As I mentioned, the above strategy worked very well for me and I was able to easily pass the PMP on my first attempt. Not to say that one should take the exam lightly; it is challenging. However, with a solid grasp of the material that is provided in Andy's skillfully written book, you should be confident that you have the tools necessary to achieve a decent grade on the exam; more than enough to pass.

I took and passed the PMP in Jan 2010!!! I took a study course with another well known PMP speciality company and it DID NOT prepare me as much as this book and online course did. I bought the book on Amazon (about $50) and signed up for the Velociteach online course for $99.00. It was well worth the money! This book was organized in a manner that made my initial studying VERY easy to understand and to begin confidence (especially if you aren't familiar with the PMI Project Mgt concepts). Once I got down and dirty into the studying I still found this book a great help to me!!!Get this book if you're new to project management or not!! The way the book is organized is much better than other study guides. Remember the PMP exam is not as much about your PM experience, but your understanding of the PMI concepts and processes. Bottom line:USE THIS BOOK for sure, but highly recommend the online course as well. I found that although not every single question was covered in the book the vast majority of concepts were covered in this book. Much success on the exam!

I just passed the PMP a few hours ago, and only used Andy's book along with some online "free" practice exams.The book does a nice job of organizing the information and trying to make it as easy to understand as possible. The problem is that some of the concepts are not logical and are not consistent. While I feel that the PMI has a worthy mission, it is clear that the documentation and processes are in their infancy.I read the book three times from cover to cover. I know it by heart. I've taken all of the chapter quizzes and the practice exam a couple of times, and score in the high 90s. But expect there to be plenty of terminology on the exam that is not covered in this book. If you know the book perfectly, that will probably land you a score in the 70s on the exam, which true to the title is a passing score.In summary, this is a good reference for the tons of memorization required to pass the PMP. Good luck!

I bought this book to study for an interview as a nurse case manager for a home visiting program for older adults.Although the case studies ask good questions, it is extremely frustrating that it offers no answers or rationales whatsoever for the questions it proposes. Therefore, I had to consult other resources to find the answers, and even then you're not completely sure the answer is right! So, this purchase was a waste of more than $40 and did not lead to any measurable outcomes in learning and gaining confidence in knowledge and theories of gerontology nursing. I wish nursing educators like Ms. Bowles would consider practical implications of offering case studies without any tools for discussion. This leaves a lot to be desired and I am left with negative feelings for time and money wasted.

There was some wear and highlighting, but it was absolutely legible and helped me get through my gerontological nursing course!

I picked up this book to use as a supplement to a class I am teaching in Gerontology and have found it very useful. I have used the book to familiarize the students with situations that they have not encountered in the healthcare setting, as part of a group discussion and/or group project, as make-up work for a missed clinical day and as part of a scenario.

This is proving to be an excellent resource for case studies for students. They are saying that they are learning while doing them They go hand in hand with the Gero Clinical that they are currently in. It's awesome and I would recommend for many levels in nursing.

This book was purchased to add supplemental material to college course work I teach. It should make the care of our senior citizens better.

It is a flismsy book with no academic benefits for students or nurse practitioner. I will never recomend this book to anyone. In fact, i will throw it away.

The book has some interesting bits to it, but at the end of the text, I simply couldn't quite decide what the author was trying to say. Each idea seems quite reasonable as an individual idea, and there are some good insights into they way body image has been shifted over time, but at the end, I can't for certain say what the actual thesis of the book was supposed to be.

Great little book. I teach women's history at a small community college. This is one of my textbooks. My students love it. They relate to many of the issues that women in the past and present had to deal with regarding their ideas about the female body. It's a quick easy read that examines the most personal details of womanhood. Topics include changing concepts of body image, physical beauty standards, menstruation, sexuality, and many other topics. Great book for moms and teenage daughters to share. Filled with anecdotal stories that help bring the history to life.

My daughter bought this book as she worked on a research project for a class. She had just finished a residential program followed by a intensive outpatient program for her eating disorder. I was so surprised that she was interested in tackeling this subject so soon after her treatment. She thought this book was really helpful and insightful for her research as well as her own recovery.

Brumberg's treatise on the changing mind of the young American woman is a historical journey that begins in the Victorian era and runs up to the present. Documented by extensive and fascinating quotations from genuine girl's diaries, the book presents as its central theme the idea that young women's sense of identity is now bound up almost completely in their bodies, rather than in their inner selves. Brumberg (a feminist historian at Cornell) discusses changing perceptions of menarche and menstruation, clothes, the body itself, and sexuality, arguing that the dramatic acceleration of physical development and social options in young girls has not been matched by an equal rise in their psychological development. She demonstrates that this disparity places young American girls at great risk personally, socially and (by implication, though not stated) morally.Brumberg's work is interesting and more than a little alarming. Though not many of her facts and figures are new to someone raised in the late 90s, they are certainly food for thought for a new father. Her morally confused stance on sexuality unfortunately allows her no space to do what she repeatedly insists must be done: save young women from their own immaturity and the predations of others. At the same time, she is surprisingly positive about the social institutions and good intentions of the Victorians and post-Victorians in attempting to support and protect young ladies. Also interesting but unfortunately underdeveloped is her repeated notice of the new role of the market forces involved in the coming of age of American girls. Overall worth reading especially for historical context but nothing here of dramatic insight as I had hoped.

This is a well written, and nicely researched book.It was very interesting. It was required for one of my classes, but I actually enjoyed reading it.

I loved this book. I used it as part of an undergraduate research project, but I think every woman with a pre-teen daughter should read it. This book is an insightful and enjoyable read.

This moving, inspirational, gripping story of a committed, creative, open-minded activist and four people who believed every life is worth saving and reached out through social media to everyone and were able to achieve the impossible despite the odds. Included is a history of a not well-known country in the midst of a brutal civil war involving Iran and Saudi Arabia.This proves that goodness, kindness and decency can overcome evil.

This is a must read for every American. This should be taught in high school! If I had had any inkling that I could have so much power to change even some small part of the world when I was in my twenties...Wow. I have so much Faith in our younger generations. We must all live as human beings. We all must seek to understand. If this guy can do it, anyone can...and should!

Understanding the Middle East is a daunting task! Never in my wildest dream did I think I could begin to grasp what a Yemeni suffered and endured and continue to endure. Thank you writing your memoir. Thank you for sharing your unconditional love of your faith and your aspiration to understand my unconditional love of my faith. Live well and may peace continue to follow you.

This book is a must read! The story is aspiring and gives hope that the world is capable of peace and collaboration. I have already bought 3 copies since reading the book and I hope more people share this story in an effort to create a better future.

Very well written account of a Yemeni’s escape to freedom. Amazing what can happen when individuals join together to solve problems. Only wish more was being done on the world stage to help all those still suffering in this poor, war torn country.

I was inspired to do more. I loved that the journey resulted in an increased understanding of the brotherhood of mankind and the fact that there are beautiful people around to help others as their mission in life--if we educate and ask.

One of the best stories about learning to love across all religions that I have ever heard. Mohammed's story shows that we taught to hate and can re-learn to love. It is for sure a nail-biter of a story and miraculous what a few young adults did to save one young man who ended up saving hundreds. Must read! Must order and give as gifts!

Very well written story. It touches your soul and points out all that we are more similar than different as human beings on this planet. We need to reach out and help our neighbors both near and far. The fate of humanity depends on it.
